Mrs. Connole, Ms. Kurt - English 10 Honors

Ms. Moberly, Mrs. Principe - English 10 College Prep

Courses

Students may be enrolled in either English 10 or English 10 Honors. The distinction between these two courses is the level of independence of the learners, and the pace at which the curriculum moves.

2019-2020

December 2019: English 10 Honors brainstorms how to design their own assessment for their units, including standards and rubrics

October 2019: Articles of the Week! Students in Ms. Moberly's and Mrs. Principe's classes have been reading and writing about one current article a week in an effort to expand both their background knowledge and their understanding of what good essays can be. So far they've read about Easter eggs in our devices, the Cherokee Nation's nomination of a non-voting member to Congress, a CT obituary that went viral, how impeachment works, a lawsuit against Juul, and a recent NBA coach who tweeted himself into censure from the Chinese government. So many things happening in the world!

2018-2019

February 2019: Book Clubs are in the air as 10th graders prepare for their upcoming read-a-thon! Each student has selected a book of choice, and will focus on their note-taking skills to engage in discussion and analysis as they go. Happy reading!

October 2018: Students in different book club groups worked together to further their understanding of text by creating timelines! They are almost finished with their latest essays! Groups have been hard at work in Mrs. Principe's class making sure all of their quotations are properly blended and cited.

2017-2018

Students in Ms. Moberly's classes use the Rainbow of Readiness to self-assess during the writing process!

March 2018: What's happening now? 10th grade students in Ms. Moberly and Mrs. Principe's classes are finalizing their wilderness journals. They've studied and created journal entries that detail how they would each survive a specific wild region of the world both physically and psychologically and the results are fascinating! These written pieces come after reading Christopher McCandless' Into the Wild.
