citing a website

Correct Format (the pieces you need to find)

Author's Last name, First name. “Title of Web Page.” Title of Website, Publisher, date published in day month year format, URL.

#1 Example

This is how a website citation might look when you can find all the pieces.

Kletter, Melanie. Thank You, Plants.” Time for Kids, TIME, 3 March 2017, timeforkids.com/k1/plant-power/.

Scroll down to the bottom to see the publisher.

#2 Example (same website title as publisher)

Here is another website that showed all the pieces. When I saw that the title of the website and the publisher were the same, I knew I should skip the publisher part.

Radu, Sintia. Children Around the World Are Living Better.” U.S. News and World Report, 28 May 2019, https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2019-05-28/children-around-the-world-are-living-better.

#3 Example (no author found)

What do I do if there is no author listed? Leave it out if there is no author shown anywhere near your information.

In this example below, the website title was also the same as the publisher, so I skipped the publisher.

What if some of the date information is missing? If you don't have a day and month, just give the year.

Online Fearful Dog Class.” Your Dog's Friend, 2022, https://yourdogsfriend.org/product/fearful-dog-class/.

#4 Example (no author found)

Leave it out if there is no author shown anywhere near your information.

In this example below, the website title was also the same as the publisher, so I skipped the publisher.

13 Mystery Books for Kids on Epic.” Epic, 19 March 2021, https://www.getepic.com/learn/best-mystery-books-for-kids-on-epic/.
