Reusable bees wax food wraps are a wonderul way of saving on use of plastic - and with these instructions you can make your own useful and unique gifts!
You will need
Cotton Fabric
Bees wax pellets or Block of beeswax and an old grater
Iron
Ironing board
Baking paper
If you are grating your wax you will need an old grater this is now your wax grater, the wax will not come off so use one you don’t use anymore or get a second hand one from a charity shop!
Wash your fabric.
Iron and cut it to your desired shapes and sizes.
You can use small scraps, old shirts etc just make sure it’s washed well as it’s being used for food!
Cut 2 pieces of baking paper that are bigger than your biggest piece of fabric, you can re-use the same pieces.
Write TOP on one side of the top piece of baking paper, this is important as you do not want to get the paper upside down or you may end up with wax on your iron!
Lay your fabric on the baking paper
Sprinkle a layer or wax shavings or pellets over your fabric. If you’re using grated shavings you will need a thicker layer than if you’re using pellets.
You don’t want too much wax as it might leak out the sides and ruin your ironing board.
You can always add more wax later.
Set your iron to the cotton setting.
Put the second piece of baking paper on top of your wax scattered fabric.
Make sure that the word TOP is on top!
Place your iron on top of the wax and hold it for a few seconds until the wax starts to melt.
Once the wax has melted you will easily be able to spread it around.
Be careful not to let it escape out of the edges of the baking paper.
If there are areas with no wax just add more to those areas.
Wait a few seconds until they are cool enough to touch.
Once fully covered hang or stack your bees wax wraps up to dry. You can stack them between baking paper if you don’t have anywhere to hang them.
To care for your beeswax wraps gently wipe with warm but not hot water and soap.
When they are getting tired you can refresh them by re-waxing them!
