I think the most successful parts of this stage was definitely the tones and the research that went into these tones. All of us as individuals have dedicated a lot of time into researching and developing the sounds of our instruments and it definitely paid off, especially in Mayonaise as we played that cover in great standard.
I researched alot into bands like Slowdive, Swirlies and title fight, and these bands usually focus on effects such as delay and distortion, my research into these effects has helped me improve my tones and general knowledge into understanding good sound quality. These bands rely on these effects for these unique sounds and my research has helped me not only see the technical side, but also how they shape songs and effect different textures.
I enjoyed the development aspect of this project. Researching into tones and then executing them well has given me a sense of satisfaction and general confidence which has helped me be a better performer than I ever was. learning more in depth about my favourite artists has also been very enjoyable, as my new expanded knowledge can really help me in future projects.
In my opinion, I would definitely improve our communication, as we didnt really agree on most things, or discuss important matters, we just kind of brushed it off to the side and dealt with it later which definitely put stress on us. it would also be great to improve the communication aspect for future projects as poor communication and planning can seriously effect a band because poor communication can seriously slow down progress and development.
One of our biggest challenges was the songwriting aspect. Especially in the beginning. For example Shes time. Shes time took a while because when we wrote shes time we weren't too for-filled with the outcome and it was only until later me and igor took charge and re arranged the song entirely. We overcame the songwriting issue by brainstorming ideas, and implementing them in our work, for example the entirety of Shes Time.
If I were to do this project again I would definitely fix our issue on absence. I feel like our combined absences has effected the band in a negative way, like slowing down progress which isn't good in any situation, for example: I was absent during the first month of the project which not only slowed down progress, I came back confused and lost as I didn't know about any of the songs.
In order to have more successful performances in the future, I feel like I would develop my lead work. It wasn't necessarily bad, actually it suited the songs which is a good skill to have, but I feel like I could definitely play and write something more challenging. That would be a good idea as it would improve my technical skills which I feel are quite lacklustre.
I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve. In my project proposal I set out that I want to form a shoegaze band, which I did and improve my stage presence. I think my performance in Mayonaise is a good demonstration of my stage presence, as im no longer stiff and still on stage, rather moving about and looking rather comfortable which is something ive been striving for. I also managed to showcase my knowledge on the genre, by displaying my knowledge on the use of effects and my playing ability in the genre. I demonstrated this through our original songs, such as Shes time. I used a variety of effects throughout the project which suited the songs quite well. I have also received plenty of positive feedback on my tones and use of effects, so im definitely headed in the right direction.
