Radio Telephone Procedure (RATEL) covers how we use radios and other communications in the NZCF. It is essential that cadets have a sound knowledge of RATEL procedures in order to effectively and correctly communicate via radio in the field and on exercise.

Objective: Recall the phonetic alphabet
Need: In the NZCF we often operating in the field using radio telephones. We also use letters of the alphabet as specific identifiers for sections and acronyms. As such you need to know the phonetic alphabet to be able to communicate correctly while on field exercise and while in and around the unit.

Need: In the NZCF we use the 24 hour time system to record and specify timing information. You need to understand and know 24 hour time to be able to effectively meet all timings communicated and to correctly distribute timing information yourself.
