Anna McCann
As a sports person my life revolves around playing Gaelic Football. From the age of 8 I began playing Gaelic Football for St Ergnat’s Moneyglass, I was introduced to the sport by my father. Now as a member of the senior team I’m lucky to have had great enjoyment and success playing the sport I love. I have won two Ulster championships with County Antrim and a number of intermediate and junior County Championship titles with St Ergnat’s GAC. Including most recently winning the County Antrim Senior Championship in October 2021. I have achieved two TG4 Lidl NFL Team of the League Awards in 2019 and 2016, for my performances for County Antrim in the All-Ireland League. With St Mary’s University College, I won two All-Ireland Championships and one League title while attending the university. As a sportsperson I am always open to playing new sports and have tried out Rugby, Soccer and Handball. In my spare time I enjoy reading, in particular I find sports biographies informative and often inspirational.
I have also been regularly involved with assisting in coaching numerous teams at my club, St Ergnat’s GAC and for County Antrim from 2016. I have assisted in achieving some of the most successful years within the club’s history at underage level. I am currently coaching the County Antrim Minor Ladies team. I have continuous involvement and dedication in voluntary activity from when I first worked towards my Gold in the Pope John Paul II Award 2015. Since then I also completed the Papal Cross Award 2018 achieving a Gold Award in it too. I was a member of the Living Youth Group first attending the pilgrimage to Rome in 2015 before becoming a Leader of the group in 2017.
As the newest permanent member of the Edmund Rice College staff and the first female P.E. Teacher, I am looking forward to the challenges of working in this fantastic school and watching the pupils, in particular the girls, grow and develop into confident, aspirational individuals.
