World Autism Awareness Week is back from 29th March to 4th April 2021. To celebrate World Autism Awareness Week, we have reached out to those with experience of autism in school and in the community. We have been truly blown away by the responses received.
We would like to thank Jude Morrow for taking the time to launch the event. Jude is an autistic best-selling author, motivational speaker and thought leader. Jude leads the world’s premier autism mentoring, training, consultancy and motivational platform – Neurodiversity Training International.
We are absolutely delighted that Jude has shared such an inspirational insight into his experience with autism. It is clear to see that he is extremely passionate for today’s society to be not just aware of autism but to accept it! To that end, we renamed our event “World Autism Awareness/Acceptance Week”.
We look forward to working with Jude in the future and we hope that through his guidance we can develop our understanding and acceptance of autism in our day-to-day lives. You’ll find his insightful video here on our hub as part of our showcase for the community.
On Wednesday we had the opportunity to take part in an informative live webinar with Stan Godek. Stan is an Autism and Child Development expert. The webinar was hosted by our Learning Support Co-Ordinator, Miss Deery. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Stan for his insight and sharing stories on the spectrum of several kids he has worked with in Scotland. If you missed the live webinar, you’ll find the recording on our brand new YouTube channel – a link is provided in this showcase.
Behind the scenes we have been supported by the wonderful Lee Kelly. We would like to thank him for all his technical support and for putting our online community hub event and YouTube channel together. Lee has recently supported our school in moving our brilliant ASD youth club online during Lockdown and he has shared an insight into this journey with Vanessa Tweed, our school youth worker, as part of this week’s event.
Finally, we would like to personally thank our fabulous team of learning support assistants for their help with this event and of course, our panel of contributors for taking the time to share their experiences with us. We would especially like to thank the parents and autistic young people in the community who courageously chose to share their own personal experiences in order to raise acceptance and awareness of Autism, to provide support and encouragement and to help us #makelivesbrighter.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our online event today. We really hope it provides you with support and helpful information. Sit back and enjoy!
