Applications for Student Directors open the first week of August.
Acting auditions begin in late August or early September.
For auditions, students will prepare a 60 second monologue. Students will audition for all adult and student directors.
Once actors are chosen and students are cast, student directors will schedule their rehearsals working up to their performance date.
Performances occur in the fall, usually during the first week of October.
Typically, there are three evening performances that are open to the public.
No tickets are sold for these shows and donations to a local charity are collected at the door.
Every fall, Boulder High puts on a series of multiple student-directed one-acts. Each August, interested junior and senior theater students may apply to direct short one-act plays.
Students are very involved in the choice of play, advertisement, directing, producing, set creation, costuming, makeup, lighting, sound, and props. Opportunities are available for students for acting, tech, and directing!
What does "black box" mean?
Black box shows are performed with a simple, unadorned performance space (usually with black walls, hence the name.) The low-tech set usually consists of only a few chairs and boxes, and the simplicity of it helps place focus on the performance itself.
