Frequently  Asked  Questions

How do new students become involved in theater at BHS?

In the Fall, listen to announcements for a Troupe 60 meeting in the second week of school. This meeting is used to welcome new students to the theater program, inform them of the various ways to become involved, and give them a tour of the theater and an introduction to tech crews.

At this meeting, students will be given access to the Troupe 60 Discord which is where communication about rehearsal and crew meetings will happen. If students miss this meeting, they can get the join code from the theater office door (known as the prod office)  in the auditorium. Students can also join crews at any time throughout the year.

Do students have to be an inducted thespian troupe member to participate in theater at BHS?

Any student at BHS  is welcome to participate in the theater program.  Students can become a member of the International Thespian Society after participating in productions at BHS, but BHS's Troupe 60 welcomes all levels of engagement with theater.

What is the schedule of performances and auditions throughout the year?

In the fall, we have the student-directed one-act plays called Black Box and also our famous Haunted House. Auditions for these projects are in late August and early October respectively.

The musical begins with auditions before Thanksgiving and rehearsals start right after Winter Break and run from January through March. Rehearsal schedules for each week are posted on Sunday night in the theater calendar. Please see individual pages for more information.

Do I have to be involved in every performance to be a part of Troupe 60?

No! Students are welcome to pick and choose which productions throughout the year they would like to be involved in. However, we encourage students to try participating in each production as each show brings unique opportunities to learn and grow as a thespian.

When do tech crews meet?

Tech crews meet throughout the year as needed. Each crew sets their own schedule with some meeting daily during the week and others 2-3 times a week.

Can students participate in sports and theater at the same time?

While we support students engaging in all activities in high school, we have seen that it is challenging to balance the daily practices and rehearsal schedules as both happen after school. Many students participate in sports in one semester and theater in the other.

What tech crews does BHS have?

We have many different crews including lights, sound, set construction, props, costumes, makeup, front-of-house and stage management.  No prior experience is necessary as training is provided by more experienced students and adults.

What classes does BHS offer for theater?

Boulder High School currently offers Theater 1, Theater 2, and Acting 2. Each is worth 5 credits of ELA elective and can count for communications credit. Descriptions can be found in this course catalog. Students are highly encouraged to pursue any and all opportunities for elective credit!

Does BHS accept clothing donations?

Sorry, at this time, we do not have room in costume storage to accept any donations from the public unless they are pre-arranged and for a current production.
