Danny’s Intent

• Each student feels confident navigating Google SketchUp, is familiar with its toolset, and understands its capabilities and limitations in 3D modeling.

• Students can navigate the tool suite and select appropriate tool function for their desired output

• Students can navigate and conceptualize in 3D space

• Students can convert a 2D drawing into a 3D model

• Students can model an existing 3D object to scale

• Introduce

  • Review syllabus and class expectations

  • Watch: The Future of 3D design

  • Login to desktops and google account

  • Class discussion on the applications of 3D modeling

  • Create a Trimble account and log into SketchUp free

• Expose

  • Navigating the tool suite

  • Drawing shapes with line tool

    • Moving objects in 3D space: X, Y, and Z axis (Red, Blue and Green)

  • Create a 2D floor plan of CCHS

    • Drawing with scale (measurements)

• Practice

  • Model an object in Danny’s room at 40% scale

• Create (DOK)

  • Model a 3D object:

    • Ideas: Super heroes, cars/trucks, furniture, instruments, tools, product ideas, etc

    • Discuss with Danny and have him approve your idea (it needs to be sufficiently complex)

    • Sketch your idea in 2D first (if original)

    • Come up with dimensions and model your object to scale

      • Apply an appropriate finish (material) to your model

      • Render your model in 4 different perspective views

• Reflect

  • Research three jobs (use indeed) in the 3D design/modeling industry. Conference with Danny to discuss the job salaries, locations, and required education/certificates to qualify.
