Learning objective(s)

• Students will understand that effective planning requires having the end goal in mind and breaking down a big project into small, manageable parts.

• Students will understand they can advocate for themselves by making a specific plan and being prepared when stating their case.

Activities

• Introduce

  • Review Part II expectations and syllabus with Nancy

• Expose

  • Review action plan format and guidelines with Nancy

  • Discuss effective presentation skills

• Practice

  • Take some notes for your project proposal - just a rough overview of what problem you are addressing and how your project will address the need

    • You can type here or print this document to handwrite your notes

  • You will present your project proposal to the Service Learning Coordinator (Nancy), your advisor, and one other staff member or student (three-person audience minimum)

    • Prep first by running through your presentation so you know what you're going to say and have any resources that will help you make your case

    • Print an evaluation form for each evaluator

  • If your project was not approved, present a second time after having made adjustments.

• Create (DOK)

  • Write out your action plan with this document

    • Be specific with each component - include dates, expenses, resources, and expected timing

    • Proofread action plan for punctuation, mechanics, and word choice

• Reflect

  • Revise your action plan as needed.

  • Check in with Nancy about project - how are you feeling? What’s next?
