THE CATHOLIC MONARCHS
With the wedding of Isabel de Castilla and Fernando de Aragón in 1469, the Iberian Peninsula entered a new stage: the foundation of what would become "Spain".
Fernando, King of Aragon from 1479-1516
Isabel, Queen of Castilla from 1474-1504
1482-1492
The legend reccounts that Boabdil, the last sultan of Granada, departed toward exile in Morocco with his royal court and his mother. As he was leaving the city, he turned back and gave a last look at the Alhambra. He then burst into tears. When his mother approached him she said :
"Thou dost weep like a woman for what thou couldst not defend as a man."
