You will find a lot of compound words in the German language. Compound words are two or more words that are put together in order to create a new word. Find 10 English compound words and write them into your exercise book as the below example:

basketball = basket + ball

Now find the twelve German compound words from the Education Perfect list and write them into your exercise book. Write the literal English translation next to them, alongside the standard translation (if it's not the same).

Challenge: Make your own compound German word. Think of an interesting way to describe something, for example, in German a kettle is called a 'water-cooker': makes sense right? Rename something in the most practical way you know how and then use dict.leo.org to translate it into German using the building blocks of its compound. Let's see if someone can create a word that actually exists without knowing it!!!
