Aufgabe 1. Write the following information in your workbook.
The heading is: SIMPLE SENTENCE WORD ORDER.
Simple sentences have the word order Subject - Verb - Object.
Remember: the VERB is the ACTION WORD; the SUBJECT is the PERSON OR THING DOING THE ACTION.
Examples:
I love animals. = I (subject) - love (verb) - animals (object).
Old McDonald had a farm. Old McDonald (subject) - had (verb) - a farm (object).
If other things are added to the sentence, these become the 'Rest of the Sentence'.
In statements the simplest word order is: Subject (Pronoun) > Verb > Object/Rest of Sentence.
e.g. Ich spiele Basketball.
Remember: The words 'gern' and 'nicht gern' are placed directly after the conjugated verb in a statement.
e.g. Ich spiele gerne Basketball.
Er schwimmt gerne.
In questions the simplest word order is: Verb > Subject (Pronoun) > Object/Rest of Sentence.
e.g. Spielst du Basketball?
Remember: In a German question, the words 'gern' and 'nicht gern' are placed directly after the subject.
e.g. Spielst du gerne Basketball?
Schwimmst du gerne?
