Year 8 Product Design- 3D Printing and Laser Cutting
Subject Length: 1 semester
Subject Fee: $45 (Cost subject to change)
This subject provides the opportunity for students to develop skills in 3D modeling and printing, laser design and manufacture, AI, and electronics with a focus on cutting-edge technologies.
What is studied?
Within this subject, student learning is based upon the following key knowledge and concepts:
3D Modeling and Printing: Understanding the principles of 3D modeling, creating digital models, and transforming these into physical objects using 3D printers.
Laser Design and Manufacture: Learning how to design projects for laser cutting, understanding the capabilities and limitations of laser cutters, and safely operating these machines.
Artificial Intelligence: Exploring basic concepts of AI and how it can be integrated into design and manufacturing processes.
Electronics: Gaining fundamental knowledge of electronic components and how they can be used in conjunction with 3D printed and laser-cut projects.
Innovation and Future Technologies: Investigating current trends and future directions in product design and manufacturing technologies.
What type of work is done?
Within this subject, student learning is developed and assessed through:
3D Design Projects: Creating and printing 3D models.
Laser Cutting Projects: Designing and manufacturing items using laser cutting technology.
Integration Projects: Combining 3D printed and laser-cut components with electronics and AI elements.
Research and Development: Investigating new technologies and their potential applications.
Folio Compilation and Submission: Documenting the design and manufacturing process, reflecting on learning outcomes.
