Subject Length: 1 semester

This subject is structured around developing an artistic skill set and then applying this skill set to design a major artwork of students’ own. Students can choose a medium to specialise in, or they can choose to work with a range of mediums. This will enable students to create a major artwork of their own, developing their skills and knowledge through their selected artistic process. Students will be given opportunities to learn about a range of artists and themes to expand their existing knowledge of the visual arts. Students will be mentored by specialist teaching staff who will assist students to meet their goals and create their final artwork. This subject will assist students with their transition into art programs in years 11 and 12.
Year 10 Visual Art provides students with the opportunity to work using a variety of visual art forms including:
Painting
Drawing
Collage
Printmaking
Mixed Media
What is studied?
Students are introduced to a variety of themes and can use a medium of their choice to respond to the given theme
Students are introduced to a variety of artists both contemporary and historical
Students are introduced to Interpretive Lenses (Structural, Personal and Cultural) and will use these to analyse and interpret the artworks of others
Students use the design process to create a major artwork of their choice

Future Pathways: Completion of year 10 Visual Arts will allow students to proceed to VCE Art Subject (Art Creative Practices or Art Making and Exhibiting Unit 1-4 ) and related VET applied certificate
