VET Building and Construction
Subject Length: 2 semesters
Subject Fee: $180 (Cost subject to change)
VET Building and Construction aims to provide learners with basic industry specific skills and knowledge to enable transition into an apprenticeship within the building and construction industries at the Certificate III level.
In all technology practical classes, it is mandatory to wear leather school shoes for safety and protection purposes.
What is studied?
Within this subject student learning is based upon the following key knowledge and concepts:
Construction Induction Course (White Card)
Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
Provide basic emergency life support (First Aid qualification including CPR)
Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
Carry out measurements and calculations
Interpret and apply basic plans and drawings
Identify and handle carpentry tools and equipment
What type of work is done?
Within this subject student learning is developed and assessed through:
White Card: Construction Induction Course
Workplace first aid
Planning, set-out, sub floor, frame work, and other construction projects and tasks
Practical based learning in building contexts including renovations
Australian Standards, National Construction Codes and regulatory compliance tasks and projects
Vocation incursions and excursions in Building and Construction contexts
Workbook compilation and submission

The VCE VET Building and Construction program aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve competencies that will enhance their employment prospects in the building and construction or related industries.
Course Structure
Year 1
CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
CPCCWHS2001 Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
VU23312 Prepare for work in the building and construction industry
CPCCOM1015 Carry out measurements and calculations
VU23313 Interpret and apply basic plans and drawings
VU23320 Identify and handle carpentry tools and equipment
NB: The units of competency in the program form Units 1–2 for VCE recognition purposes. Credit will accrue on the basis of 90 nominal hours per VCE unit in the following sequence: Unit 1and 2. Units 3-4 can be attained via continue enrolment in Years 11 and/or 12 at Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
