VCE Physical Education (Units 1 and 2)

Unit 1 - students explore how the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems work together to produce movement. Through practical activities students explore the relationships between the body systems and physical activity, sport and exercise, and how the systems adapt and adjust to the demands of the activity.
Unit 2 - students develop an understanding of physical activity, sport and society from a participatory perspective. Students are introduced to types of physical activity and the role participation in physical activity and sedentary behaviour plays in their own health and wellbeing as well as in other people’s lives in different population groups.
What is studied?
Within this subject student learning is based upon the following key knowledge and concepts:
Systems of the human body, how they are used and how it can affect movement
Skeleton, muscles, circulatory, respiratory and energy systems
The relationships between physical activity, sport, health and society
Contemporary issues associated with physical activity and sport

Participation in workshops/labs and practical experiences
Case study and data analysis
School assessed coursework
End of semester exam
