Introduction to VCE PE

Introduction to VCE PE aims to give students an introduction into the topics and content of VCE Physical Education Units 1 & 2. The topics include Anatomy and Physiology, Body Systems Response to Exercise, Sports Injuries, Performance Improvement and Physical Activity Analysis. This elective will be a mixture of practical activities and theory. If you are thinking about doing VCE PE in Year 11 then this is the subject for you. Students will also complete a compulsory Sport Education & Health unit throughout the semester.
What is studied?
Within this subject student learning is based upon the following key knowledge and concepts:
Anatomy: structure of muscular and skeletal systems.
Cardiorespiratory System: how does it function at rest and during physical activity.
Types of musculoskeletal actions.
Sports Injuries: common causes and strategies to reduce the risk.
Sport Education: developing, coordinating and participating in a structured sporting competition
Health: Gender, Sexuality & Relationships
What type of work is done?
Within this subject student learning is developed and assessed through:
Introduction to VCE PE: combination of theory workshops and practical LAB activities.
Observational assessment of application within practical activities.
Formative assessment rubrics: self & teacher assessment.
Sport Education: performing various team and duty roles.
Health units are assessed through completion of workshops, collaborative activities, workbook tasks and summative assessments
Exams completed at the end of the semester
