Digital Photography

If you are an aspiring Photographer seeking to gain the skills and knowledge of photographic techniques, processes and post production, or if you just enjoy the creative process of capturing the world that we live in, this subject is for you. Digital Photography will offer you the opportunity to explore the theoretical and technical skills of a DSLR camera, editing software and analysing artists and their works. This subject will challenge you creatively to consider the world from a different perspective using various techniques. Through the presentation of a portfolio, you will have the opportunity to plan and carry out your own photoshoot which will document your creative journey through steps of the design process, supported with annotations that assist in developing your literacy skills and ability to discuss and express your ideas and processes.
What is studied?
Within this subject student learning is based upon the following key knowledge and concepts:
Technical and theoretical aspects of a DSLR camera, including Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO priority and manual settings
Technical and theoretical aspects of industry-standard editing software using Adobe Photoshop
Experimentation and Photographic manipulation techniques and processes using Adobe Photoshop
Analysing the formal qualities of own and other practitioner’s photographic works
Development of technical skills through Photographic Techniques and Compositional Rules
Development of a Digital Portfolio, following and documenting the Design Process
Development of technical skills through the exploration of the Art Principles through theoretical and practical workshops
What type of work is done?
Within this subject student learning is developed and assessed through:
Practical workshops supported by annotation and reflection
Development of a Digital Portfolio
Produce and experiment with photographic works
Written and visual analysis tasks
Annotations of photographic works to explain photographic processes
End of semester exam

Year 10 Digital Photography can lead into Year 11 & 12 Visual Art subjects where students can choose to specialise in Digital Photography
