In Dance, students explore movement as a powerful form of personal and creative expression. Through practical classes, they develop technical skills, performance confidence, and choreographic abilities, working individually and collaboratively. Students study a range of dance styles—from contemporary and jazz to cultural and social dance—enhancing their physical coordination, creativity, and understanding of the art form.
The course integrates practical performance with theoretical knowledge. Students learn to analyse and interpret dance works, understanding how movement communicates ideas, emotions, and stories. They develop an appreciation of dance in different contexts, including historical, cultural, and commercial settings.
Key skills and learning outcomes include:
Building technical proficiency and safe dance practices
Applying choreographic devices to create original works
Performing with expression, confidence, and audience awareness
Analysing and evaluating professional dance works and their impact
Collaborating effectively in creative projects
Dance encourages self-discipline, resilience, and creativity, while fostering an appreciation for physical artistry. It provides a foundation for further study in the Arts and offers pathways into performance, choreography, production, and community arts engagement.
