The Book Fair at Brunswick was held at The Burke Field House on Sunday, November 6th to try to get kids interested in reading! It was full of excited kids looking for new books to take home. There were so many to choose from such as books for toddlers to huge novels to exciting graphic novels; everyone found at least one book. We were so grateful to the volunteers and BPA who helped make this event possible.

On Thursday, November 3rd, Mr. Miller, a 6th-grade advisor, explained that we need to remember the time when 9/11 happened and how the league reacted to it. One of the things that we need to know is that baseball is a wonderful sport, and we need to acknowledge the people who play the sport.

Mr. Miller said that one night in the Yankees stadium, a Mets player scored a homerun that gave Americans hope after 9/11, a tragic time. We also learned that the president of the United States, George W. Bush, went on the diamond and took the first pitch from the mound!

After Mr. Miller’s presentation, we met Gerrit Cole, a starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, and Adam Ottaviano, a relief pitcher for the NY Mets. They explained to us how they started their professional career. They also gave us ideas that we could use to get ourselves focused throughout the day. One thing they told us to do was to give ourselves a pep talk. We could also meditate to slow our heart rate. The other pitcher said we must prepare ourselves because people will put us down. Never let anyone stop your dreams!

I witnessed the Pumpkin Blaze this year. It took place on November 1st, near Croton-on-the-Hudson in New York. There were incredible sights of gourd-filled Jack-in-the-Boxes springing up and bouncing around. I turned the corner and saw a slithering snake and a giant spider web that made me feel like a fly trapped in a net. And the best part was when I saw Lady Liberty holding her torch high to light up the night sky. When I saw the twenty-foot-tall dragon that breathes fire I knew I was in the right place. If you missed it You should've come to the Pumpkin Blaze this year. You also could get free sandwiches, hot chocolate, apple cider donuts, and cold and hot apple cider. You always have next year to witness the amazing Pumpkin Blaze as I did. If you want to go to the Pumpkin Blaze next year there will be a website sent out to the parents to buy tickets.
