During the coronavirus pandemic, families have had to adapt to a completely new world. Ask your classmates to capture this moment in time by recording and sharing videos of alumni families interviewing each other about their experience.
Step 1: Determine guidelines for the video project you want to communicate to participants. These guidelines could include:
Length of video (i.e. 2-4 minutes)
Question/discussion themes (below are possible question topics)
Where the videos will be shared
Step 2: Advertise and get social.
Make sure to invite participation in the projects across your group’s social media platforms. Use appropriate hashtags to spread the word. Hashtag possibilities include: #EverTrue, #BrownReunion, #BrownAtHome, #BrunoniansAtHome, and #Brown(insert last two digits of class year here).
Step 3: Provide instructions for your participants.
Sample instructions for alumni participants:
Step 1: Discuss the family video project with your family. Identify who will be the interviewer, the interviewed, and who will record the interview.
Step 2: Come up with some questions. Here are a few to get you started:
What is your favorite thing about virtual learning/homeschooling? What is your least favorite?
Where in your house is your favorite place to work/learn?
What new skill have you learned while staying at home?
What is your favorite part of working/learning from home? What is your least favorite?
What do you miss the most?
What have you learned about your family during this time?
Where do you miss going?
What are you looking forward to doing when you are able to?
What are you doing for exercise?
What have you been cooking?
What have you learned about your Mom, Dad, sister, brother, wife, husband, significant other, roommate, cat, dog, etc. that you did not know before?
Step 3: Record the interview. Ideally, you will ask 2-3 questions and the answers will be short. Try to keep the video to 2-4 minutes in length.
Step 4: Edit the interview (or don’t). There are a number of options for editing a video recording. One free and simple tool is Open Shot: https://www.openshot.org/. Editing the video would be a great side-project for a bored, technically curious kid or adult. However, if the interview is simple and short, there should not be any editing required.
Step 5: Share the interviews on your group’s social media pages with the hashtags #EverTrue, #BrownReunion, #BrownAtHome, #BrunoniansAtHome, or #Brown(insert last two digits of class year here).
