Listening to a long-forgotten song can transport us to particular moments in our lives and evoke the emotions we felt during that experience. Collaborating on a playlist is a fabulous way to invoke people’s memories of their time at Brown and/or a way to get people to work together on creating a unique themed soundtrack.
Step 1: Decide on technology
We recommend using Spotify or the new music app from YouTube,YouTube Music.
This guide is for Spotify, but the concepts apply to both platforms.
Step 2: Select a volunteer to set-up the playlist
Select a volunteer who has a premium account and has experience with the platform. Here is a video guide detailing how to create a collaborative playlist.
Step 3: Create the themed playlist
Decide on a playlist theme. This theme could be related to people’s time at Brown (like a Class of 2000 playlist) or it could be a playlist based on a general topic like favorite Halloween songs.
Step 4: Share the playlist
You might want to share it with a small group first to build a list that generates a good algorithm for suggested songs.
Alumni who use the free platform will be limited to choosing from a suggested list of songs, while premium users can search for specific songs.
Step 5: Promote the playlist
Post the link to the playlist on your social media pages
Promote it via BRAVO email blasts
Promote it with hashtags, like: #EverTrue, #BrownReunion, #Brown(insert last two digits of class year here)
