Fine Art Printing

Granoff is open 9am-3pm, M-F until classes start up again on Wednesday, September 3rd. | Trainings will start 2 weeks after shopping period.
The Granoff Multimedia has a fine art, large format, Epson 9000, inkjet printer that can deliver professional, museum quality, prints. To get started you must complete a training, which can take up to a week to both complete and process. After completion users will receive an inital $50 stipend. We charge members only for the ink used, making this the most cost-effective way of producing professional quality prints.
Use of the 2D printer is on a first-come-first-serve basis, and you must print from one of the computers in the Multimedia Lab.
If you have immediate printing needs and can't wait to go through training, take a look at some local alternatives
Problem: Printer is "paused" and won't resume
Solution:
If a printer queue is ever paused on a machine:
open the printer queue (you can do this via apple icon top left > System Settings > Printers & Scanners > select printer > print queue
If you see a "play button" in the top right corner of the print queue, that confirms the queue is paused.
Navigate to view in the tool bar > see everyone's jobs
Delete or cancel all jobs in the queue
press the play button on the top right to unpause the queue.
you should now be able to print given you have enough money in your myprint, otherwise the printer will get paused again.
If that doesn't work:
Email cats@brown.edu and describe the issue AND which computer you are working at.
Move to another computer and try to print again
Problem: Computer is asking for a username and password to print
Solution: Email cats@brown.edu and describe the issue. This is typically an indicator that your training was not completely processed.
Problem: Printer says ink is low
Solution: Print anyways
Problem: You sent a print through successfully but the printer isn't printing
Solution: Do not send the print again until you have checked the following:
Do you have sufficient funds in your myprint account?
Did you add the required 2" to your paper size?
Does the paper, printer profile, and black ink (Matte or Photo) match?
Cost is $ 12/linear foot (height). So a print that is 44" wide by 12" high will cost $12.
We charge only for the price of ink at cost. All other associated costs like maintenance and paper are provided.
This is the lowest cost you will find for large format, professional, museum-quality printing.
Consider the cost when laying out your print.
Rotate portrait oriented images so the longest side is the width of your layout, which will save you money.
If printing smaller prints try to fill up your layout with other prints, as you will be changed for the entire length of your print anyways. If you have blank space, you will still be charged for it.
Please name and save your photoshop file with a unique name, before sending to print. "Untitled1" is not as useful a descriptor for us as "Portrait_Under_Cherry_Blossom".
While most of these were part of your training, they can be good to refer to if you haven't printed in a long time.
