FINE ART Printing

Overview

The Granoff MML has a fine art, large format, Epson 9000, inkjet printer that can deliver professional, museum quality, prints. To get started you must complete a training, which can take up to a week to both complete and process. After completion users will receive an inital $50 stipend. We charge members only for the ink used, making this the most cost-effective way of producing professional quality prints.

Use of the 2D printer is on a first-come-first-serve basis, and you must print from one of the computers in the MML.

If you have immediate printing needs and can't wait to go through training, take a look at some local alternatives

Troubleshooting the Printer

Problem: Printer is "paused" and won't resume

Solution:

    • It is actually the print queue on the computer that is paused not the printer itself. Only an admin can un-pause it, but you should be able to print from any other computer in the Granoff MML until we fix it.

Problem: Computer is asking for a username and password to print

Solution: Email MML@Brown and describe the issue. This is typically an indicator that your training was not completely processed

Problem: Printer says ink is low

Solution: Print anyways

  • The printer will start saying ink is low when the cartridge is at 15%, meaning there is still alot of ink left.
  • On the off chance you do print and the image comes out poorly due to the ink being out, email mml@brown.edu and we will happily refund your money and change the cartridge

Problem: You sent a print through successfully but the printer isn't printing

Solution: Do not send the print again until you have checked the following:

    • The computer will not indicate this to you automatically. You will have to sign in to your account at myprint.brown.edu and check. Remember that the cost is $12 per linear foot printed (including the added 2").
    • The computer will not print or tell you to do this. Remember that when creating your custom paper size, you must add two inches in height to the overall size of your photoshop composition. Double-check this.
    • If these don't match, the printer will not print, and it will not tell you there is an error. Remember that Matte Paper uses the Enhanced Matte Paper printer profile and matte black ink must be set on the printer itself, The same is true for the Premium Lustre. Check the ink on the printer, as many people forget this as a last step when changing the paper

Printing Resources: Refreshers

While most of these were part of your training, they can be good to refer to if you haven't printed in a long time.
