The Granoff Center for the Creative Arts has a professional recording studio! The Brown Arts Institutute, through CATS, are now opening this resource to rest of the Brown community by offering free sessions with a Recording Assistant!
Student, Staff, or Instructors at Brown are eligible to sign up for a session.
No recording or audio experience necessary, our Recording Assistants will help with that.
This is exclusively for those that have not been trained via a Music course.
If you have taken Music1200, Music1220, Music1225, or Music 1260, and have use the Granoff Studio before, and are seeking permission to work solo in the space on a special project, fill out this proposal form instead.
Availibility is limited as the space is primarily used to support a variety of music courses, however, members fo the Brown Community will be able to sign up for a session with an MML Recording Assistant below! Sessions are currently limited to an 1 hour.
The recording assistant will set up the studio mics for your session and work with you to get a clean, good quality recording. Outside of a clean recording, Recording assistants are not obligated to do any mixing, audio engineering, or production.
At the end of the session you will be given a digital file with your recording session that you can then use in the Mulitmedia Labs or elsewhere to edit and produce as you like.
This service is meant to support creative discreet, small, one-off audio project on campus. Because availability is limited, we can not support sustained on-going projects.
Example of a good project for the studio: booking one or two sessions in a semester to record vocals or instruments for an EP you are working on
Example of a project we can not support: booking a session every week of the semester to record an on-going podcast
vocal, small band, instrumental, long voice-over, radio plays, experimental recordings are all possible.
Very short recordings and voice overs can also be done in our MML Recording Booth, which is self-service
