BALLOT STATEMENTS
BALLOT STATEMENTS
So i'm running because I believe that a students voice can change the school experience for everyone. As students, our perspectives, ideas, and concerns matter and must be acted upon, and as senator I will ensure that. I want the school to be a better place for everyone, where all discips feel included and supported to succeed academically and socially. Through my school career, I have been involved in student leadership--Semester II of 7th grade year actually, and I understood, and still understand now the voices of students. And in the end, it did change a lot. I have also seen the various challenges we face, and as a senator, I will advocate to prioritize the students well being. I stand for inclusivity, accountability, and transparency. Everyone's perspective needs to be considered. Together, we can create big change and a even better place. Let's make this place better, and make real change happen. Along with getting you guys crumbl cookies.
Greetings! My name is Melissa Judith Avila and I am running for Class IV Senator! Here’s all the information you need to know about me.
I have a strong desire to protect the advocacy of the students and staff and to also protect the accountability of authorities’ actions here. I also want to show a strong example of responsibility and advocacy to others as well.
I am a very responsible person. I do my best to empathize and resonate with the people. But I think my greatest qualification is my ability to handle leadership under pressure and conflict. I can organize the people, provide necessary information and support, and I can hear them and solve problems according to their needs and desires.
If I had something to say to everyone in the world, it would be: ”Morality over success”. I hold myself to high moral standards and want to make sure that the experience for TBLS is satisfactory and unbiased for all. This also ties in to my demands for the advocacy of student rights and accountability for all leadership positions.
Thank you for reading! I hope you take this into consideration this election, and vote for me Class IV!
Hello disculpi!
I’m running for class senator because I believe in the power of our voices. As your representative, I want to ensure that each of you feel heard and valued within our school community. My goal is to make Brooklyn Latin an even better place for all of us, where freedom and equality are not just ideals, but daily realities.
I have experience in leadership roles, where I’ve successfully advocated for my peers and worked to implement positive changes. I understand the importance of collaboration and transparency, and I’m committed to bringing those principles to our student government.
My goal for our school community is to amplify our collective voices. I want to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered to share their ideas and concerns. Together we can work through a lot whether it’s improving our resources, enhancing school spirit, or fostering a supportive community. A wise man once said “ Solus lupus moritur, pravus autem vivit”. This quote means a lot, as it represents our school community, individually we can do a lot, but when we work together we can tackle anything,
Thank you all!
I, Egor Balgurin, am running for two reasons. One is to properly make sure that the will of the fourth class gets represented in the student government, without any intervention from those from higher classes, or educators, no. It is my duty as one of two class 4 representatives to represent my class, so that my class's will, be carried out successfully. Secondly, I will focus on reorienting the schedules into a more cohesive form, that includes creating one schedule for all days. The new schedules will be based on an elective basis where the student who is the most affected by his or her schedule will be the one who chooses their schedule. The rest of my actions will be dictated by the people themselves through consensus.
When elected, I’ll work toward implementing school events, field trips, spirit weeks/non-uniform days, off-campus lunch, updates on the uniform policy, and more (most of my goals are seen on my visual aid.)
I want to be the change I wish to see in my environment. We’ll be spending four years of our life here, and I believe it’s extremely important for everyone to be happy, excited, and comfortable in this community; and I hope to lead this initiative.
I’m an organized, motivated student who knows how to manage a workload (let me cook!!), and I aim to advocate for student voices to improve our quality of education and overall experience in our first year of highschool. Furthermore, as a professional yapper, if a student has a problem, I’m more than willing to communicate with faculty and work to assess the situation.
As your classmate, I hope that you all make the right choice in your vote; a vote for a senator that’ll have you thinking, “Wow! That was an amazing school year.”
My point is: when it’s time to vote for a Class IV senator, please choose “Aya Boutassamout” and you won’t regret it.
I am running on the main campaign promise to make our school lunches better. My name is Henri Frederick and I believe that more students today are choosing to not eat lunch over our school lunches and this cannot happen. Lunch is essential to the academic capabilities of any student, and if a student comes to school without a pre made lunch they will end up hungry by the end of the day. Hungry students leads to lower overall grades and with this being our first semester of high school, it is all the better to preform to our highest capabilities. I have a background of 3 years of debate, and have placed 8th in national middle school policy, I have the credentials to fix, what I think is, our school's biggest problem. All I need is YOUR help. Thank you - Henri Frederick, Student Senator Elect
My fellow students, I come to you with a very important message. I'm here to fix the many problems of the school, as I offer a multitude of solutions for you all. As many of you may know, I have directly set up inter-class communications through social media and have been able to keep said connections moderated and in line. Due to these connections, I have an excellent understanding of what the students want, which keeps me grounded in reality and for the people. I also have experience in debate, which can greatly help me get your points across. I've received public speaking awards in my middle school, which proves that I can talk to large audiences about ideas that senate decides on. On top of this, I used to be a part of my school's newspaper, meaning I can see your issues impartially and properly address these issues to the senate. My expertise in helping unite students makes me the best choice to vote for. I'm here to make our students have the best possible 4 years here at TBLS. I'll be here for the students, just like my motto: Semper Parati, Semper Ibi. Always ready, always there.
I am running to represent the ideas and concerns of all class IV discipuli. Since elementary school, I have been chosen by my magistri to advocate for my classmates, and upon graduating middle school I won the New York State Comptroller’s Award for Academic Excellence, which recognized my leadership skills. Attending high school in New York City is a unique experience because we all come from different neighborhoods and backgrounds, and I am here to listen and to create a collective voice that serves all of our best interests.
I am running for Student Senate because I believe that it is really important to have a well-rounded individual who hears all the students and what they want to implement in their school. I believe that I am highly qualified as I have served in student government for the past 5 years, throughout elementary and middle school. As an athlete myself, I will implement more sports initiatives such as having sports equipment available during school recess, and will try to create more PSAL sports. I stand for equality and justice for all students and want to have each and every student’s voice heard no matter what, because I believe that everyone deserves an equal say in what happens in their school. To back this up, I will be creating a Google Form to ask students what initiatives they want to include in their first year at TBLS, and will be sharing some possibilities such as Dress Like a Teacher Day, and Student vs. Staff basketball and volleyball games. In conclusion, I would like to wish the best of luck to all my competitors and wish the best for TBLS!
I am running for the purpose of improving this School. I am qualified because I am very mindful and considerate. I stand for removing or attempting to fix the the big load of limitations holding kids back from enjoying this school. Some examples would be, uniforms, activities, expand on clubs, sports, etc. ;) i have rights
Hi there, my name is Rachel Li! I’m running for the position of Class IV student senator because I believe in empowering change through the student voice.
I believe that I am qualified because of my leadership experiences. At my previous school, I participated in the Young Debaters Program and was the school’s salutatorian, demonstrating my dedication to communication and academic success. However, besides that point, perhaps my biggest qualification is my ability to problem-solve and listen to your concerns. My goal is to become the representative that YOU can count on. I won’t make promises I can’t keep or give you false hopes, but I will always be upfront about what I can achieve. To be transparent, not all promises of change are possible. But with your support, we can overcome any challenge we face and make sure everyone thrives in a small community like ours.
With that said, I’m committed to shaping our school and advocating for things that will benefit us all. It is a privilege to stand up for our community and I hope you can vote to support me every step of the way. Let’s start here, start now, and start change.
Thank you.
I have always been surrounded by a lot of opinions ever since I was in middle school: everyone else’s and my own. My peers always complained about how our school was raising racists, gossipers, and even cheaters instead of withholding its “prestigious” title across various websites. Seeing how everyone was so disinterested and confused, I decided to take action to make them less so: I joined countless extracurriculars in my school from helping host winter dances and promoting inclusion in the cafeteria to tutoring peers and joining a musical to make my school a happier and a more stress-free place. I initiated my own year-long school project: The Student Manuals Committee, where my friends and I created instructive manuals for the 8th-grade classes in our academy, helping students navigate around the school easier in the terms of electronic, emotion, and physical aspects, through communications with teachers and counselors and advertisements to make it a reality. Gratefully, I was awarded as an “outstanding” contributor and a “humanitarian” by my school. I believe there’s always a voice to be heard, a person to be helped, and an idea to be started. I am an advocate.
Hey! I'm Jarvis, and I'm running because I believe in the power of advocacy— the ability of any Class IV discipulī to be able to have their ideas heard and championed by their senators and student government. One way I plan to accomplish this is by implementing a suggestion box, where discipulī can anonymously submit ideas which the senate can review and consider. This idea worked well in my middle school, where I served as student council president (one of only two seventh graders to ever do so). Another policy I'd implement to champion student ideas would be to add more uniform designs, including creating a discipulī uniform design competition. And I have experience of getting things, like those, done. As well as being school president, I was elected to represent the entire student body on the SLT (School Leadership Team) in 8th grade, serving alongside the principal, teachers, and parents. And with my 3+ years of debate experience, I know how to listen, communicate, and fiercely advocate for YOUR ideas, not just mine. If you want a Brooklyn Latin that works for you, vote Jarvis McCarthy for Student Senate. Follow my ig @justvotejarvis for more info! thank you bye
To all of Class IV at TBLS,
You are worthy of a senator who cares about your voice. Even outside of pre-election day campaigning and honeymoon phase thanking, a passionate advocate will continue to gather opinions of those quiet and loud, minority and majority, and sunny and gloomy. That will be the foundation of my goals at TBLS, looking to create dances for those sociable, and laid-back gatherings for those not. I will place a larger emphasis on national holidays and celebrating the cultures and heritages around them. I will strive to widen the accessibility of one-on-one tutoring, designed around the individual rather than a group. I will keep one eye attentive to the gaps waiting to be filled , and one ear out to hear the students' pleas. That is why you, Class IV, should use your voice to elect me, Paulina Milewska, as your senator.
Hello, My name is Santiago Perez, And I’ll be running for student senator for class four. And honestly, I’m running to represent all of my Hispanic brothers and sisters in TBLS. The majority of students in the school are either Asian or White, and this is also the case for those in Student Senate. If I do end up getting the position, I’ll make sure to voice the opinions of my community, and the opinions of everyone in my grade, making sure that no one is left out. I'll also advocate for student resources. As I know some kids who have trouble getting access to school clothing or technology to help them complete assignments. Another important note to remember is the fact that being in Student Senate is also extremely time consuming. There would likely be various events and meetings after school or during the weekends. And although this could be an issue for someone who lives far away from the school(like in Manhattan). I can assure everyone I won’t face these problems, because I live 25 - 30 minutes from the school, so traveling definitely won’t be an issue.
I’ve always had a desire to be in a leadership position because I want to have a say in things that go on in my school and impact me, and I want to enable my peers to enjoy their time at school by organizing events that benefit them. I have lots of experience in student council, having participated in it since 4th grade. During 7th grade I was the student council advisor and during 8th I was the president. During my time as president I was able to organize many things our previous cabinet couldn't, such as school dances, peer tutoring, and the school store that raised enough money to assist in activities like field day.I stand for the students, and I want to make sure everyone is happy with our decisions. I’m not afraid to speak out and take suggestions that I believe would benefit the student body for the better.
Hi, I’m Gowthami running to be your student senator. You all know that freshmen year is probably the most challenging year in high school - from making friends, managing classes, clubs and sports and let's not forget the time it takes to commute daily. I want to make freshman year as enjoyable and memorable as I can. Part of my goal is to make sure all your concerns are heard by the school. You can reach out to me all year long with any questions or concerns you want me to voice. I will also keep you updated on all the key points discussed in meetings. So make sure you vote for me.
I am running for the Class IV Senate, because I want to make TBLS better in one of two ways. Firstly, make the experience even more memorable by organizing and coordinating exciting events over the course of the school year. Additionally, I want to represent the voices of the Discipuli by adding the things students would like.
I'm qualified because I have good communication skills and great leadership skills while also being humble and empathetic. I feel responsible for the success of the Discipuli community.
I stand for improvement, compassion, and bravery. For example, in my middle school I made a club dedicated to helping students do their homework with teachers' help. That improves overall test scores. I’m eager to bring the same positive changes to the TBLS.
To be honest, TBLS is so dull and uninteresting in regards to the lack of fun events and trips they have; this is one issue our school suffers from, and students are insisting on a change. Hi, my name is Louis, and it is my passion to elevate this school to greater heights, surpassing what’s been achieved before, and revamp what TBLS is known for. Much of my qualifications come from my expertise in debate, my extroverted energy, and my willingness to stand up for a community that I share my beliefs and desires with. I stand for our students’ equality and well-being within the school atmosphere. TBLS is not a perfect school, nor are the other top schools in the city. It goes to show that there's significant potential for improvements, and it’s our job to search for these hidden corners and renovate them. You, along with your peers, can make a remarkable difference at TBLS by electing me to become one of your class 4 senators. By voting for me, you can feel reassured to have your voices heard. It will be my pleasure to serve you all as one of your senators.
I am running for class senator because I want to develop different types of skills, such as leadership and interpersonal skills. Some things that makes me qualified are my understanding of others and I try to accommodate everyone's needs while maintaining fairness. I stand for improving the community's experience and making a difference, such as trying to increase the budget for the school by trying to arrange fundraisers and such.
