Surreal Composition
Introduction to Surreal Composition
In this session, we were introduced to photoshop and the many tools within it.
We looked at pieces of surreal composition, which is when a photo is edited to look unrealistic. An example of one of the photos is shown here. The photo has been edited to give the illusion that a human mouth is in the speaker of a dial tone phone.

My Final Piece
For this task, we were asked to create our own surreal composition image with the help of a video tutorial, which was provided for us. We all recreated the image of fishes swimming in a lightbulb.
My interpretation is above to the right and the tutorial we followed is also linked. I have also added a screen capture of the layer of the image from photoshop so that you can see the different steps I took to create my final product.
Advanced Surreal Composition Piece
My Final Piece
After we had become more accustomed to Photoshop, we were given the brief to create our own surreal composition piece without using any tutorials.
I have added my final piece here. The original photo was a piece of photography I took. I have replaced the grey sky with three separate layers of fire to create depth and texture as well as an image of a red sky underneath all of these to emphasize the red of the fire, which I used a screen blend mode on to quickly get rid of the background.
