Start revising early
Start a few months before, not a few days before
Have a realistic revision timetable
Planning out your revision means you can spend more time revising and less time worrying you've forgotten something.
Plan in time to rest and relax
Have a designated revision space
You'll need somewhere with good lighting, your pens close by, your phone out of sight and your TV unplugged. Try not to revise on your bed, or you'll be dreaming of pink igloos and elephants before you know it
Vary your techniques
How do you work best?
Work 50 mins, break 10 mins
Work for two hours, have 30 min break
Study in the day, some prefer at night
Sleep
Give yourself enough time to sleep (7-9 hours).
Track your sleep to see if you’re getting enough.
Keep your bedroom cool.
Don’t use your bed for work or eating.
Keep a consistent sleep schedule, even on the weekend (bed time and wake up time)
Take power naps if needed (no more than 30 minutes)
Exercise regularly to get a good night’s sleep.
Use sleep strategies (meditation, writing stuff down etc.)
If you can’t fall asleep, do something relaxing and try again later.
Avoid using your phone at least 30 minutes before bedtime
Exercise
Even if it’s going for a walk
Healthy Eating
Eat proper meals
Keep hydrated (avoid energy drinks)
Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables
Watch your coffee intake
Avoid too many ‘treats’ (but still treat yourself within reason)
Have fun :)
Make sure you are spending time with friends and family and having a bit of fun
Study Buddy
Find someone to study with
Study groups
No more than 6 (due covid rules and if there’s more you probably won’t get much work done!)
Study Supporters
Get teachers, friends and family to support you in your studies
Journaling
Note down 3 highlights of your day, something you are grateful for and a target for tomorrow
Breathing
Take deep calming breaths
Fresh Air
Make sure you are going outside (if you’re not isolating), even if it’s in the garden or for a short walk
Have a positive feed
Flood your social media with positive, supportive accounts
Get a good night sleep
Make sure you sleep well the night before (maybe go to bed a bit earlier)
But also make sure you leave an extra 30 minutes before normal so you don’t get stuck in traffic or train delays etc.
Speak positively
“I believe in myself, I will do my best in these exams”
“Good study habits are inbuilt in me because I have put in the work”
“Today I set aside my fears and achieve all my educational goals.”
“I revise well and productively. My revision brings me excellent results.”
“Feeling anxious is expected, however I know how to manage this and I have overcome it before”
Breathe
If you are stressed in the exam, take 10 seconds to put your pen done and take 3 deep breaths
Move on
Don’t dwell on the exam after it is done - there is nothing you can do about it
