As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our devices up-to-date and secure, we will upgrade all Windows-based devices to Windows 11 this summer. With Windows 10 no longer receiving support (i.e., Security updates), it’s essential that all devices are updated to ensure continued functionality and security.
To shut down or restart your computer, click on the power symbol in the lower right corner of the Start Menu. Remember, if you have any issues with your computer, the first step in troubleshooting is to restart, not shut down.
Why Upgrade to Windows 11?
This upgrade brings several new features to enhance your experience, including improved security, better performance, and a more modern interface. It’s essential for all devices to be running the latest operating system to ensure compatibility with new applications and security patches.
We appreciate your cooperation and are here to help if you have any questions or need assistance. Please stay tuned for more details, and feel free to reach out with any concerns.
Please back up all files and information to Google Drive and Chrome before the upgrade. Our upgrade process will erase all data on your device and return to you in like-new condition. We highly recommend completing your backup as soon as possible to avoid any data loss.
If you need assistance with backing up your information, please reach out to your building's media specialist, or you can contact the Help Desk for guidance. In most cases this can be in 10 minutes in person or remotely.
You will need to drop off your laptop at your Media Center before or during the first week of summer vacation.
Upgrade Timeline:
The upgrade process will take approximately 6 weeks. You will receive the same device back, upgraded to Windows 11.
Please fill out this Google Form for you to list any specific software that needs to be reinstalled or any special needs related to your device. This will help ensure that your device is fully ready when returned.
Working Over the Summer?
If you need to use your laptop over the summer for district-related work, we’ll accommodate you with a special appointment to upgrade your device immediately and return it to you afterward. You will need to fill out the portion of the Google form stating what work you are doing over the summer, and it will be reviewed and approved before the accommodation is made.
Pickup
You will be notified via email when your laptop is ready. You will pick up your laptop in your building's Media Center. NOTE: You will need to sign into your device the first time while on campus, or you will be unable to use it.
IT Support staff will be on hand to assist with signing in and setup.
Help for Windows 11:
We will provide training opportunities for Windows 11 by appointment if needed.
