Bruins Impress; Defeat #1 Ranked Broken Arrow

Bartlesville Lady Bruins versus Broken Arrow Tigers Volleyball was a night to remember. The Tigers being undefeated and number one in the entire state, Bruins were in for their work. Bartlesville started strong in the first set with a wipe out of 25-8 having been in the lead the entire time. Coach Blain stated Emery Brown carried the team during this game as a whole, but to add, she dominated the court during the first set. Second set was an intense match with the teams being close the entire time, unfortunately, towards the end Broken arrow caught the lead and won 18-25. With tension of the-tie up in the air the third period was even closer. Again though, Bartlesville was just points behind losing 23-25, making the closest set of the season, but the Bruin spirit was not down yet. During set 4 Bruins dominated, being in the lead the majority of the match and scoring 8 of the first ten points, and won 25-18. Now it was Bruins 2, Tigers 2. The crowd was loud the whole time, but now restlessness was felt in the air and seen on everyone's face, as well as the apprehensive energy. The fifth and final set started very close, but Coach Blane put in Mia Johnson and she helped the team gap the Tigers with the most exciting win of the season yet, 15-9, Bruins win!
Varsity Volleyball Vs Jenks

The Volleyball game that happened Tuesday night was between Bartlesville Bruins and Jenks Trojans. The Bruins were able to win Set 1 out of 5, with several highlights standing outs; Kelsey Ward serving and Marielle Bussey on header, were able to win the First Set. However, the Trojans were really good and the next 2 sets they were able to kill a lot of attacks that the Bruins couldn’t catch in time. During the 4th set, things did change a bit for the Bruins, as Emry Brown was able to strike up 19 kills during this period, which Coach Andrew Blain remarked, “Audree Brown Killed it with those 19 kills! Very Impressive!”. However, the Trojans won, but it’s not to say that both teams did very well! Coach Blain said, “The Trojans were just really good, but many of our players also did very well, Especially Kelsey Ward as server, and Emry Brown as Outside Hitter!”
Lady Bruins Roughed Up the Spartans
By Coach Vermeire
If you are not a fan of volleyball, you would be if you watched the matches last night between the Bixby Spartans and your Bartlesville Bruins. The freshmen played first set of matches. In game one of the series the Bruins got off to a slow start down by 6 points, but rallied back hard for a solid 25-21 win. In game two they played well together, and as a team proved victorious with a 25-20 victory, and sweeping the series 2-0. Next up were the junior varsity matches. These did not go as well for the Bruins who just seemed to never get under their feet. They seemed off balanced and outgunned at every turn. The Spartans swept this series 2-0 with a 25-13 win in game one, and a 25-12 win in game two.
Next up was the varsity matches. These were an absolute showdown. In game one, the Bruins came out swinging and dominated the Spartans 25-17 behind some amazing defense by Sofie Frye and the powerful spikes of Kelsey Ward. Moving into game two things got really heated. It was a back and forth match where no one seemed to have the upper hand. When the smoke cleared the Bruins were the ones on top 25-23. Heading into game three the Bruins were confident they could put the Spartans away, but that is not what happened. The Spartans came out with a more aggressive approach that proved productive and got the Bruins on their heels. The Bruins held on as long as they could, but they just seemed to be plagued by bad serves, giving the upper hand to the Spartans who won 25-21. Game four ended up being the match everyone came to watch for the evening. The Bruins found themselves down by 4 to 5 points at times but always rallied back to stay in the game. Toward the end of the match the Bruins even held a 9 point lead in what seemed like a definitive win. After a questionable call that went in favor of the Spartans, they were able to rally back to tie up the match. The final points were nothing but spectacular to witness and had the whole crowd on the edge of their seats. The Bruins proved they deserved their win and came out on top 25-23, winning the series 3-1.
The Lady Bruins will be going on the road for their next matches this Friday, all participating in tournaments. The freshman will be going to Catoosa, the junior varsity will be going to Southmoore, and the varsity will be at Lincoln Christian. Best of luck to our Lady Bruins and a well-deserved Great Job on last night’s games.
