Year 7 and 8

Accelerated Reader Programme

All Year 7 and 8 pupils have a dedicated reading lesson within their English curriculum time. During their English lessons, pupils read individual reading books and also take part in guided reading sessions led by a member of trained staff. The pupils use the Accelerated Reading programme to identify reading books. All pupils complete STAR reading tests termly, these are reviewed by our Literacy Coordinator to identify pupils who need additional support with their reading development.

Year 9, 10 and 11

In Year 9, 10 and 11 students are encouraged to read through every curriculum area, but they continue their reading monitoring through our English department. In Year 9 students have an individual reading book and continue to enjoy reading for pleasure alongside more formal study of texts. Their progress in reading is monitored as a strand of assessment in English.
