At Bowland students are offered the vocational course, WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Performing Arts (Technical Award). This Vocational offering will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the sector and provide them with opportunities to develop associated practical skills.
This course covers performing, creating and performance arts in practice which allows students to gain industry specific knowledge and skills.
Students can complete this course via the following pathways: Music, Music Technology.
Units of Study:
Unit 1: Performing - Controlled assessment: 30% of qualification - 60 marks
Within this unit learners gain a holistic knowledge and understanding of the skills and techniques needed to reproduce an existing piece(s) of professional/published work.
Students learn the skills and techniques needed to produce a successful performance of an existing work, such as a piece of music. Students will research, rehearse and perform with the submission of a portfolio to accompany which shows progression through the unit.
Unit 2: Creating - Controlled assessment: 30% of qualification - 60 marks
This unit enables learners to gain, develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the skills and techniques needed to create and refine original work in the performing arts.
Students will learn how to create and refine their own original work by composing their own music in response to a given brief.
Unit 3: Performing Arts in Practice - External -controlled assessment: 40% of qualification
Students will learn about areas of the performing arts industry that need to be considered when responding to a commission, and will consider these when coming up with and pitching your own idea. This unit brief is set by the exam board.
