What do I do with parent council funds?
Parent councils may contribute funds to the Student Activity Agency Account if those funds will be used for a student activity. Funds must be deposited into the Student Activity Agency Account prior to their expenditure for student activities. If parent councils wish to maintain their own account, they may establish an independent account, but are requested to submit annual reports to BPS on the sources and uses of funds via submission of Form B at the end of every year.
In instances in which students or school employees direct or participate in fundraising, those amounts may not be directed to independent parent council accounts.
If my school has a parent council account they opened with the City of Boston tax ID, should I close that account?
Yes. All such accounts must be closed and reopened using a different tax ID once all student activity funds or any other funds to which BPS is entitled in the account are transferred to the Student Activity Agency Account. Reach out to Yvonne Macrae if you have questions about closing such account.
