Andy Barillas is an 18 year-old senior in Bloomfield High School. This is his first and last year of Journalism. He came to the U.S. at the age of 6 from Guatemala and lived in Harrison for the first few years of being here. He learned English very quickly after only 2 months of arriving in the country. He hopes to be some type of architect in the future and plans to go to college here in New Jersey. He loves his family and cousins and hanging out with them. He is on the Varsity Boys Soccer team. One of his biggest dreams is to travel the world and discover new cultures. Some of the places he would like to visit include El Salvador, Spain, Italy, Japan, and Peru. He would also love to go back to his country to visit his family and look around since he left from a very young age and has only gone back once in 2021. He has always enjoyed drawing in his free time although he doesn’t as much anymore.
Jasonie Chatman is a senior at Bloomfield High School. She is a varsity athlete on the track and field team. Jasonie is passionate about reading, though she can be distracted by TikTok. She hopes to work in the medical field as an athletic trainer or as a nurse.
Jade is a 16-year-old Junior. She was born in a small town in New York and was raised there for 11 years before moving to New Jersey. She spent not even a half year in Bayonne before Covid hit and then spent the rest of her time so far in Bloomfield. She absolutely loves writing and has had a passion for writing since she was a child. She even wrote a book when she was 12, and is writing one right now. She loves Horror in any form: books, movies, games, and experiences (haunted houses, abandoned buildings, etc.). She also loves cats and foxes! And she’s always down for a good yap session. She's pretty set on going to Boston College, following in her uncle's footsteps, her uncle is and has been her mentor for years! Jade is a very silly person, she is a big goofball and always loves to make others laugh!
Jeremy Cortes is a 16-year-old junior student at Bloomfield High School, the music he enjoys most is alternative and his favorite artists are The Rare Occasions, Late Night Drive Home, Cuco, Los Retros, and Mac DeMarco. Jeremy is the youngest of 4 brothers and owns two beautiful birds, and has a passion for animals. Jeremy hopes to be in the field of animal biology and or marine biology and is an amateur at most things but strives to be successful.
Evan Cox is a seventeen year old student at Bloomfield High School. He’s in his final year at BHS making him a senior. Evan was born in New York, but raised in Bloomfield so he’s been here his whole life. Evan’s favorite book is “I'm Glad My Mom Died” by Janet Mcurdy and his favorite genre to read is horror, but he’s been dipping his toes in other genres now. He enjoys writing and is very passionate when it comes to what he’s writing, especially if it's something he enjoys writing about and hopes to pursue a career in journalism someday. Evan usually does his best writing in quiet spaces while listening to his favorite artist Sabrina Carpenter. He hopes to write articles that are interesting to read for others.
Emily is a 17 year old who attends Bloomfield High School. She would prefer to work and stay home than go out with groups of people. She is an Alto in Choir and likes math. Emily is usually very quiet with music in her ears unless she is with her friends. Her favorite artists include XXXTENTACION, Tyler the Creator, and NBA YoungBoy. Her favorite shows are Bojack Horseman, One Piece, and Seven Deadly Sins. Her favorite songs include Throw Away, Let's pretend we’re numb, and Ranada. She has few friends but is open to making more. Emily is a June gemini and likes getting her nails and lashes done. This is her first year in journalism. She enjoys playing roblox, eating, and shopping. Sophia Curtinez is a sixteen year old junior student here at Bloomfield High School. She is of Mexican/Bolivian descent and loves to embrace her culture. She is also a big advocate for POC and the LGBTQ+ community. She loves listening to music, some of her favorite artists include Laufey, Omar Apollo, Beabadoobee, and Chappell Roan. She also likes to stay home and watch cartoons with her pets. Some of her favorite tv shows and movies are Arcane, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Spiderman (any), and Whiplash. Sophia is excited to go to college and pursue a career in media and journalism. One day she hopes to be interviewing big celebrities on the red carpet and writing for a big magazine company.
Aaliyah is a sixteen year old junior at Bloomfield High School. She always has her headphones on blasting music with her nose in a book. Her favorite author is Lynn Painter and her favorite book is Better Than The Movies but she also enjoys classics like Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The best way to become immediate best friends with her is to bring up the movies 10 Things I Hate About You, Save The Last Dance, or A Walk To Remember. Aaliyah’s favorite song is Me and Your Mama by Childish Gambino and her favorite artist is The Weeknd. Her favorite colors are sage green and lavender. Derek Fred is a dedicated freshman at Bloomfield High School, originally from Puerto Rico. Growing up in Newark New Jersey he is the middle child among the 2 3 brothers and 1 sister. He does not have a particular favorite song. His diverse background and experiences have shaped his unique perspective on life which he often reflects in his writing. In addition to his studies, Derek is currently not involved in any clubs. He has a strong desire to join the basketball team and participate in community activities. He recognizes the importance of engaging with peers and contributing to his school environment by getting involved, he hopes to further develop his skills and make lasting connections. Laalah Georges is a 17 year old senior at Bloomfield High School. She enjoys writing and is on the Student Prints for her second year. Laalah’s birthday is in the summer and she likes to read (and write) about current events. She is the oldest child and has one sister. Laalah has a pet bird and a couple fish. Shecares greatly for the community and wishes to see it strive. She is always looking for new things to learn and places to see. Her favorite book is The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern and her favorite color is green. She loves animals and enjoys every time she goes to the zoo. Ti’Annah Holder is a sixteen-year-old junior at Bloomfield High School with a distinctive style, favoring red, black, and white. Passionate about turtles and flamingos, she finds inspiration for her writing in her favorite movies, “The Book of Life,” and “Strange Magic.” Ti’Annah has a particular fondness for the night, appreciating its calmness and mystery. However, she has an unusual fear of balloons, which she finds quite unsettling. Crystal is a fifteen year old sophomore, born in North Carolina and raised in Newark, who gets the chance to meet new people as it is her first year in Bloomfield High School with the help of the newspaper. Her favorite color is dark army green and she is half Guatemalan, half Dominican. Crystal enjoys making up creative stories, reading, drawing, playing games, and spending time with the people in her life. Her family consists of herself, her mom, crazy younger sister, older brother, and her drama queen of a cat. She hopes to become an architect one day and her favorite place to look at houses/apartments for inspiration is Hoboken, NJ. (You should really go there, it's so beautiful).
Jazelle Pascual is a seventeen year old senior at Bloomfield High School. This is her first year in journalism. Jazelle loves writing and learning about other people's interests. She also loves listening to music and playing the guitar. She collects trinkets and stickers! She loves to watch youtube and watch movies in her free time. Luke Rakowsky is a seventeen-year old senior at Bloomfield High School. He enjoys creative writing, working on short stories and historical fiction in his free time. He loves music, listening primarily to Jazz and grunge while doing school work. He is also a percussionist in Bloomfield High School’s championship Marching Band and wind ensemble. Outside of school, he works out at the gym, goes on expeditions in upstate New York with his friends, or sleeps in and plays strategy games at home. In addition, he enjoys numerous extracurriculars. He is a member of the Ski Club, and Esports Club, does club fencing, and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is active in America’s Ukrainian diaspora, participating in Ukrainian Scouting and other related activities. During the weekends, he works as a ski instructor at Plattekill Mountain in Denver, NY. Destiny Rambaran is a 16 year old junior at Bloomfield High School. This is her first year in Journalism. She is a peer leader who attends Black Student Union meetings. She is a proud Jamaican. Destiny enjoys baking, listening to music, drawing, watching tv and hanging out with friends. She has 8 siblings along with many cousins. In the future, Destiny hopes to attend nursing school and achieve her Bachelors in Nursing.
Gabriel Sanon, known to his friends as Gabe, has spent most of his life in a beloved home in Bloomfield, where he has built countless memories alongside his brother, mother, and grandmother. Together, they have created a nurturing and loving atmosphere filled with laughter and stories that resonate deeply, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.A significant aspect of Gabe's upbringing in Bloomfield has been his love for football. He recalls vividly the day he first put on his cleats in the third grade, a moment that felt exciting and full of promise. Playing football in his hometown has provided him with essential life lessons.
Karina Seepaul is a 17-year-old senior at Bloomfield High School. She likes to read romance-fantasy books and novels, and although she may come off kept to herself, once you get to know her, she's a very passionate person. She can yap about everything she loves down to everything she can't stand. She likes taking pictures of things when something looks aesthetically pretty and she loves listening to Cigarettes After Sex, TV Girl, Vacations, and other similar artists. She wants to be an English teacher, preferably high school. Nabid Sharif is a Muslim, Bangladeshi 16 year old Junior at Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, New Jersey. This is his first year in journalism. He is also the youngest of 4 children. His favorite day of the week is Friday, the most hated day of the week to him is Sunday. The things that interest him are reading and studying theological and philosophical works, as well as hanging out with his friends. He speaks 3 languages, English being the most fluent language that he knows. He would rather be home with his cat than in school reading about things that do not interest him. He currently lives in Bloomfield, New Jersey, United States of America but plans to move to Madinah in Saudi Arabia, if he is not able to then he will move to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates if he is able to.
Lilah Tremmel is a junior in Bloomfield High School. She loves to explore nature and perform. She is an avid explorer and loves to travel to new places. She performs in the school's musicals, and loves to take pictures. She loves to make banana bread and other baked goods. Some other things she enjoys are tea and hot drinks. She wishes to find a way to train pigeons, to send letters, and for her own personal enjoyment. She thinks keeping an open mind is very important. If you close your mind you can not grow as a person. She likes to dye her hair different colors and cut it short for fun. All the colors are her favorite. One of her goals is learning how to sew. A way for her to show gratitude is by giving people baked goods. I make my own earrings and I have a collection of them.
Faraz Zamdin is a Senior at The Bloomfield High School. He was born in March. He is an Aries and people say his attitude reflects that. His favorite season is Winter because of all the aesthetics. This is his third year taking journalism and he is super excited to be back. Faraz dreams to be a history teacher to give back to the community. He loves any music from the Caribbean and West Indies. He also loves K-pop and many international dramas. He loves his Guyanese culture and learning about different cultures. Another dream for Faraz is to travel around anywhere he can. He plans to attend William Paterson University for college. He enjoys staying with his family and talking about any drama they can get in the family. He is an NHS member as well as a part of the Future Educators Association. With his dream in hand and multiple support systems around him, he plans to make his senior year the best.
