Interventions
Over 200 students in the academy receive targeted intervention, to help them progress in specific areas of academic and social learning. So far, student voice tells us that students are thoroughly enjoying their interventions and they add extra-value to their school experience. In module 3, we will begin to formally review the impact of interventions to assess the progress made by our students.
Drawing & Talking Intervention - Mr Evans
Some examples of the excellent work that has gone on in Drawing & Talking intervention. Our Y9 girls group has produced some particularly impressive pieces. Some of the topics we have covered this module include: 3 colour combo, round robin art, free draw, landscape/scenery and masking tape art.
Speech and Language Intervention - Ms Hawkins
Mind maps from our Language for Thinking and Language for Behaviour and Emotions interventions. We have been reading and discussing the different stories and then sharing words and experiences that relate to them. The students have enjoyed drawing on the white board as a team and also creating scenarios using role play.
Social Skills Intervention - Ms Janes
Reading Intervention
In module 2, reading club for year 7 students began. It is led by Lab16 students who group read an age-specific text (1 year above their reading age) with a small group of 2-4 students. During the session the Lab16 student uses reciprocal reading skills to help the students develop their accuracy and fluency. If you would like your child to join this provision, please contact the SEND mailbox.
In-class support
There has been some exemplary work produced by students with additional needs this academic year. Below are some examples of work produced in a variety of subjects, that children can be very proud of. These images have been captured by the Learning Support Assistants that support your children in lessons, who are also very proud of the progress being demonstrated.
SEND Celebrations
This Christmas, Ms Wadsworth has begun our “Light of the day” initiative. Each day, two students are nominated for demonstrating a LAB value by a member of the SEND team. They have their nomination printed on a displayed golden star, and get to open the advent calendar window that day.
We will also be hosting a SEND Christmas party on Wednesday 17/12/25 between 10:40am and 11:25am. This will take place in the activity studio. Students do not need to bring anything and will be provided with a selection of activities and treats.
Equatio training
This term, the Maths department have collaborated with the SEND department to deliver Equatio training to the team, and then our pupils. Equatio is software designed to improve access to Maths and Science. This is part of our digital access strategy. The students enjoyed turning different input techniques (voice, typing and handwriting) into editable equations, formulas and graphs.
