As we come to the end of our second module, Airy staff and students should feel incredibly proud of the wonderful start they have made to the academic year. The term has been exceptionally busy, filled with events, celebrations, and co-curricular opportunities. Highlights have included Black History Month, our Remembrance service, and Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, to name just a few. Please visit our curriculum pages for further examples and photos of these events.
Attendance and Punctuality
As you know, we continue to prioritise excellent attendance and punctuality at LAB. Recognition must go to all students and families for their resilience and commitment over the past two modules. Airy College closes Module 2 with a year-to-date attendance figure of 95%, which is above national averages. However, we remain ambitious and a re working towards meeting our minimum expectation of 95%. There is still progress to be made across all year groups, and we appreciate your ongoing support in helping students attend every day.

Uniform and Standards
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all parents, carers, and students for your continued support in maintaining our high uniform expectations. Your commitment ensures that Airy students present themselves with pride each day and helps create a calm, focused, and professional learning environment. We truly appreciate your efforts in ensuring students arrive at school ready to learn and representing LAB to the highest standard. A reminder that nose studs, excessive jewellery, black trainers, fake eyelashes and nails are not permitted. Further information regarding our uniform expectations can be seen here on our website.
Airy Students
Our Year 7 students have made a fantastic start to their LAB journey. They have transitioned exceptionally well from primary school and consistently demonstrate our LAB values in their daily habits. Their growth over the last seven and a half weeks has been phenomenal, and they are now fully embedded in the Airy community.
We are proud to share that both Year 7 Airy tutor groups currently top the college attendance leaderboard with an impressive 97% attendance since September. Merits have also been a real moment to celebrate with 7C gaining 2414 merits and 7F with 3012 merits.
However, a special mention to 8C who have earned the highest number of merits across LAB in Modules 1 and 2, with an outstanding total of 3587 merits.
Year 10 students have made a strong and purposeful start to their GCSE courses this academic year. They have approached their studies positively, engaging well in lessons and demonstrating increasing confidence with GCSE-level content and expectations. We look forward to seeing the outcomes of their upcoming first round of GCSE PPE exams in the new year.
We are very proud of our Airy Year 11 students, they have demonstrated impressive dedication during their recent mock examinations. Their commitment, maturity, and focus on their GCSE studies have been excellent. The Monday after-school intervention sessions have had a significant positive impact on students’ revision schedules and overall focus. To celebrate their hard work and achievements, Airy students were invited to a special revision focused celebration breakfast on Wednesday 10th December. During the event, students met with leaders and Year 11 tutors to discuss their next steps in preparing for their upcoming examinations this year. We provided them with a revision pack of flashcards, folders, highlighters and other useful equipment.
Airy Stars and Student of the Fortnight
We are extremely proud that Airy has a current year to date merit total of 23219 and are regularly in the first place spot in the lunch line.
Each module, Airy College celebrates and recognises students who have gone above and beyond. Students who consistently embody our LAB values of Ambition, Integrity, Resilience, Scholarship, and Respect, are nominated weekly by their tutors. The wider Airy team then votes to select the winning students.
All nominees are recognised during assemblies, where the reasons for their nomination are shared and celebrated.
At the end of each module, selected students are invited to our Airy Celebration Breakfast in recognition of their consistent commitment to the LAB values and for achieving the highest number of merits. This event takes place in the final week of each module.

Airy Student Spotlight
We would like to give special mentions to two of our awesome Y11 students who have to balance their studies against their sporting commitments
Kitty 11C
It is so inspirational to see the level of perseverance, hard work and dedication Kitty puts into her sport and how much she achieves without ever letting on.
“I am kitty, I am 15 years old and I love riding my bike! I have been cycling for 3 years and racing for one and a half. I typically race track however occasionally I will race a bit of road or cyclocross.
My best results from this season was 1st at Derny Fest in the B Cat after being literally millimetres off qualifying for the A Cat. I got 5th at a National Omnium round in the south. I also came second overall out of the girls at my local track racing in the summer and 5th overall.
Currently I am in 4th at the Lee valley track league after two rounds and at the last round of the Condor Women's League I won every race in the B Cat and was one of the youngest on the race.
I train roughly 7-8hrs a week whilst balancing school and revising for my Year 11 exams but also being able to see friends and family which is important to support me but I also would be able to do all of this without the help from my family, coaches and teachers.”
Kit 11C
We would like to give Kit 11C a massive congratulations on his Scholarship offer!!
“After over 8 years at the club I have been offered my scholarship meaning it becomes my full time job after my exams, where I will be paid to play football! This is a massive achievement for me as I did not have it easy, I’ve had to work hard and go through so many ups & downs to get where I am today.”
Airy Charity lead
This module, Airy College has been proud to lead the whole-school charity focus in support of our chosen local charity, Home Start UK. It was wonderful to welcome Paula Ribiero from Home Start, Greenwich, into LAB to deliver a special assembly to all students about the charity and the work they do. Students and staff worked together to organise a highly successful food bank collection, demonstrating compassion and community spirit. We also held a non-school uniform day, where students were encouraged to wear the Home Start charity colours of purple and orange to raise awareness and show solidarity and support young families in Greenwich. A big shout out to Finlay B in 9C who is a Home Start Ambassador and continues to work to raise funds and awareness for the charity following the work he and friends did last academic year in the First Give Charity project that was part of his LAB Learner curriculum.
We are incredibly proud of the generosity shown by our Airy community and the positive impact this will have on families supported by Home Start.
Finally, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all members of our community, both at school and at home, for your continued support. We look forward to welcoming students back for the start of Module 3 on Tuesday 6th January.
On behalf of the entire Airy College team, we would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, restful break.
