KS4 - Careers
Year 11 - Pathways Event
Year 11 students recently attended a Pathways Day event at Woolwich Works, where the entire cohort had the opportunity to explore the wide range of post 16 options available across the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The event brought together a variety of local course providers, giving students direct access to information about different routes they can take after GCSEs. Throughout the day, students were able to ask questions, gather advice and gain a clearer understanding of what each pathway involves.
Students spoke with providers offering IB Diploma Programme courses, A levels, T levels, vocational qualifications, apprenticeships and other specialist routes. This exposure helped students compare academic and practical options, understand entry requirements and consider how different pathways align with their interests and future ambitions. The event was a valuable experience, supporting students to make informed decisions about their next steps and encouraging them to think confidently about life beyond secondary school.
Year 10 - Pathways to your future day
Year 10 students recently took part in a Pathways event designed to help them explore their options beyond Year 11. The first part of the day focused on introducing students to the range of post sixteen pathways available to them, including A levels, T levels and the IB pathways. Through a series of structured sessions, students gained a clearer understanding of how different routes can lead to further study, training and employment, helping them to see that there is no single correct pathway.
The second part of the event featured a session delivered by Baringa, where students were encouraged to think more deeply about future careers and the skills employers value. The session prompted students to reflect on their own strengths, interests and ambitions, and to consider how these qualities can be developed over time. Students engaged positively with the discussion and found it useful to hear how skills gained in school can transfer into the workplace.
The final part of the day marked the launch of the Year 10 work experience programme. Students were given key information about the process and expectations before taking part in a panel discussion with Year 11 students, who shared their recent work experience experiences. Year 10 students had the opportunity to ask honest questions and hear first hand advice, which many found reassuring and motivating. Both students and staff valued the openness of the discussion, with Year 11 students taking pride in supporting the younger cohort and staff noting how impactful peer guidance was in helping students feel confident about the journey ahead.
Careers Programme and Unifrog
Careers education is delivered through tutor time using Unifrog, an online careers platform that helps students explore options, develop skills and plan their next steps. It brings together information on careers, courses and pathways in one place and allows students to record activities and reflect on their progress over time.
Each year group focuses on age appropriate activities that support students at different stages of their journey. Year 7 students begin by exploring dream jobs and learning about the world of work. Year 8 students build on this by developing their CVs and identifying the skills and qualities they are gaining through school life. Year 9 students focus on decision making, supporting them as they consider subject choices and how these decisions may shape future opportunities.
In Year 10, students use Unifrog to explore local employers and pathways, linking careers education to real opportunities and preparing them for work experience. Year 11 students focus on making informed post sixteen choices, using Unifrog to research destinations, compare routes and reflect confidently on their next steps.
