Leadership

Academic & Pastoral
I have been fortunate to have experienced leadership roles across both academic and pastoral areas of education. At Garden International School I was a subject leader for Photography - a subject I introduced to the curriculum with great success. I was also a House leader which was an incredibly rewarding experience and gave me a greater appreciation for the mechanics of planning and leading school wide projects and events. As Faculty Leader for the Creative Arts I have gained experience in a wider range of roles from budgeting, curriculum design and implementation, leading and supporting professional development, analysis of data - exam results reflection and subsequent planning for the faculty, along with general quality assurance to maintain and uphold the highest teaching and learning standards possible. I have always believed in the importance of innovation and evolution, both in the use of technology and in teaching pedagogy in general.
I have successfully led the Creative Arts Faculty for the last 6 years. In that time we have changed campuses and developed the learning environments immensely. The department has also grown in terms of staffing and students numbers as well as resources and facilities. When I first joined Bangkok Prep the Art department worked solely with pencils, paper, brushes and canvas. We now have a Darkroom, a fully fitted professional Photography Studio, an iMac Suite, a Ceramics studio and printing facilities. My vision has always been to ensure we are pushing forwards to utilise the latest technical innovations and teaching pedagogy to maintain excellent exam results along with happy students!
Vision
I have a clear vision for the future of the Visual Arts and its place within education. In an increasingly competitive and digitally progressive world the value of creative minds, the ability to take risks, work through a design process and develop imaginative and original ideas is being increasingly sought after. As always examination results are an essential ingredient to the progress of any student, however, it is a person’s contribution to society and their creative mind that sets them apart. Traditional approaches to creating Art as well as an appreciation for Art history and foundational techniques and processes should always form the basis of learning the Visual Arts, however, the introduction of digital processes, and exploration of the potential within the combination of these processes, enables students to explore greater pathways that prepare them more effectively for University and the digital working world beyond.
Head of House
Yes that's me in the white t-shirt and silly hat dancing away.....probably one of the proudest moments of my career. Progression and results in my Faculty and in my students is of course paramount, but the leadership of students within the house ethos is something I will never forget. It has made an indelible mark on my educational philosophy and in how I encourage each student to fulfil their potential. The development of the student as a whole, ready to face the world, and make a positive addition to it, must always be at the forefront of education.
