International Award

“I regard it as the foremost task of education to insure the survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self denial, and above all, compassion”

Kurt Hahn

A love for the outdoors was instilled in me as I grew up within the Scouting system. I was selected to attend the World Scout Jamboree at the age of 16 and went on to gain the Chief's Scout Award, the second highest award attainable in Scouting. I have always been involved inspired by the work and philosophy of Kurt Hahn and believe in the power of experiential learning in the outdoors in order to cultivate lifelong skills of independence, determination and perseverance. I was an Award Leader and Assessor for the International Award Programme in Bronze, Silver and Gold Award programmes culminating in a final expedition to Mount Rinjani in Lombok, Indonesia.

As an International Award Leader and Assessor I developed an Experiential Learning Assessment Grid which enabled staff to quantify student progression from Key Stage 3 Camp right through to the International Award in KS4 and 5.
