Head Girl Ezzah Shah and Head Boy Muhammed Pasha
Student Leadership Group
Congratulations on making it into Sixth Form! These two years will be crucial - not only in your academic progression, but also in your development as a global citizen. With the large jump from GCSEs to A levels, the amount of admin with university applications and the raised expectations one must adhere to as a student at the top of the school, it is very easy to start feeling overwhelmed. However, it can be successfully overcome with the right mindset.
The first vital change has to be to one's own study schedule. Old tricks such as cramming will not work anymore with any A level subject, so you have to make time an acquaintance. Proper time management, along with having a revision timetable is what allows the dream of an A* to become possible. Not only that, but simply sorting your tasks aids in improving your own consistency and organisational skills - priceless qualities in your future adult life.
Another noticeable difference is the number of opportunities available to you. As a Sixth Form student, you are entrusted with some of the most prestigious roles in the school such as House Leadership, Head Boy & Head Girl, being a member of the Student Leadership Group, Peer Listening and many more. These roles come with large responsibilities, but ultimately enhance your critical, analytical, leadership and teamworking skills to incredible heights. These traits remain with you permanently.
From the moment you begin Year 12, your progression towards adulthood begins. Having to handle university applications particularly opens one's eyes to the fact that their time in BISR is coming to an end. Despite any associated worry or apprehension, the Sixth Form has a fantastic support team to guide you if you need support. Composed of your tutors, Ms Damaree, Mr Aw Musse, Mr Hind and Miss Hassan, you will be under their pastoral care and they will always help in facilitating your academic and university-related needs.
Of course, all of this advice is easier said than done. It will take determination, effort and resilience, but the results of your effort will propel you beyond even your own scope. So take charge & do what you love - the BISR community is always right behind you.
