Languages

Macs can work in multiple languages and with multiple keyboard layouts. At BISP most Macbooks have US Keyboards labelled in English (US layout) and Thai. If you want to use other languages or layouts then overlays can be purchased.

Different aspects of language used can be set separately, including OS Language (the language used on application menus), and keyboard language (the language when you are typing).

In the Languages and Regions panel of System Settings, most of the choices are self-explanatory.

The top item on the Preferred Languages list, is the Primary Language and will be used by the Operating System. If you need to change simply click and drag the languages into your preferred order. Note a change of primary language will not be fully implemented until the Macbook is restarted.

In Thailand, the Gregorian calendar is widely used, but the official calendar is Buddhist. The only difference is the year 2020 (Gregorian) is 2563 (Buddhist). Although Songkran (in April) is described as Thai New Year and accompanied by major celebrations, including vast amounts of water, the Buddhist calendar year changes on January 1st the same as for the Gregorian Calendar.
