Do you want to be part of the ENCoDe team? See below our current opportunities.
Please contact encode@binghamton.edu for more information.
Graduate Students
Students interested in addressing research questions related to the early neural and behavioral development of the perception of social stimuli, cognition, and social communication will best fit current and future studies conducted in the lab.
Graduate students will be joining the team through the Cognitive and Brain Sciences PhD program offered in the Psychology Department. More intonation about the program and application process can be found here.
Applications from individuals from under-represented groups in science are encouraged.
Below are some suggestions for perspective applicants.
Application materials are reviewed and interviews are conducted by multiple Faculty members in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences area. This means that your application must fit both the area as a whole, as well as my research team. Competitive students for the program will likely need to show prior experience in research lab(s), ideally including an independent research project (e.g., thesis, conference presentation). Direct experiences with young pediatric populations (newborns, infant, toddlers, children) is necessary for the type of research projects contacted in ENCoDe. Last but not least, your statement should describe the type of research you wish to pursue and the research questions that drive your passion.
Dr. Stefania Conte is accepting graduate student applications in the 2025 application cycle to start in the Fall semester of 2026.
You are welcome to reach out to Dr. Conte regarding your intention to apply. You may not receive a reply, and this should not be viewed negatively. To ensure fairness, no meetings are scheduled prior to the formal interview process.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students interested in any aspects of developmental research questions can join the team as volunteer or for-credit research assistants (RAs). No prior experience is necessary to join the research team.
Volunteering RAs will be participating in weekly team meetings and journal clubs (about 2 hours/week). It's a good opportunity to observe how our research is conducted and increase your knowledge on Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience topics.
For-credit RAs will be participating in all the above and will have hands-on experience in data collection, data entry and preprocessing. Junior students with interest in pursuing an independent study encouraged to participate in the Honors Program in Psychology.
To get the most out of your experience, we do encourage a commitment for multiple semesters when possible. To know the current available opportunities, please reach out to Dr. Stefania Conte (sconte@binghamton.edu) or encode@binghamton.edu.
