Determine immediate need for referral or set an intervention plan.
Or involvement of special education staff beyond the average MTSS team meeting.
There are situations in which more immediate action is needed in determining qualification for special education services. If a child has obvious signs of cognitive or physical issues such as those listed below, they need to receive immediate support. Factors leading to more immediate referral include (but are not limited to):
Documentation of known previous medical condition(s)
Moderate to Severe intellectual or devleopmental delays.
Severe seizure disorders
Genetic conditions
Down's Syndrom
Autism
etc.
Known brain injury/damage that has caused a change in functioning
Problems with hearing or vision
Physical disability
Documented severe emotional or behavioral conditions
Post traumatic stress disorder
Severe anxiety or depression
Documented severe malnutrition
Mention of previous special education services
Parent request tied to previous diagnosis or qualification.
Even in these "immediate" cases, the team still needs a ELL staff member involved in the process. Reach out to your coach.
