Corsica is my favorite spot in all of France! I've been there twice and constantly dream of returning. It is called the "L'île de beauté," or, "Island of Beauty," which is a well deserved nickname. It is known for its rugged and wild landscape, which includes everything from desert, to mountains, to sea. There are hundreds of quaint villages that dot this island, some hidden in the hills and others closer to the water.
Corsica is situated between southern France and Italy. It has been a part of France since 1768, but has bounced between ownership from Italy and France (even England for a short stint) before it finally landed with France. It's culture (and language), is definitely influenced by Italy as well as France, but it is its own unique place. While France is the official language of Corsica, and everyone speaks French, they also speak their own language, called Corsican, which sounds close to Italian.
Corsica is known for its beauty, its white-sand beaches and clear water, its food (wild boar, cheeses, seafood, clementine jam, and other local specialties --too numerous to mention!), its 15 day G20 hiking trail (known to be one of the most beautiful--and most difficult--hikes in all of Europe), its unique culture and history, and finally, for being the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte!
