The Production Process Day 2

29/10/19 - Today we were assigned our roles for the short films, placed into our groups and focused on team building.

In the beginning of the session we looked at what makes a good team. We began by brainstorming in groups about good team aspects, for example, respect, communication, responsible and commitment. We then shared our ideas with the entire group, explaining our point of views and discussing how they are relevant. Reflecting on this, we looked at Google's conclusion to what makes a good team, studying surveys that they have taken from their own working spaces.

As a resulted, we were presented with five things that make a good team and that we all understood and agreed with. These were Psychological Clarity, Dependability, Structure & Clarity, Meaning and Impact.

After this, we were assigned our roles for the two scripts that will be made. I received the role of cinematographer in a three-man camera team. I was pleased with this as it would advance my knowledge in the technical side of filming and help put my learning into practise. As the scripts still needed to be developed we were yet to be told which one we would be shooting.

We spent the rest of the day shooting some very short films and building the chemistry in our team, keeping in mind what we had learnt in the morning.

Overall, I learnt a lot about sound in the day, how to check if the levels are correct, how to hook up a boom mic and head set to the camera and how to actually hold the boom mic. I developed my growing skills with the camera, how to achieve different shots, how to frame them and how to demonstrate our intentions.

Concerning our team, I felt like we worked really effectively today, we sat in a circle and discussed our ideas for the short film and various shots, taking into account each others opinions and respecting them. We became more relaxed around each other and excited to shoot the actual short film the following day.
