Schindler's List | Score Cover

This was a small project of mine where I chose a film score and did my best (with some help!) to replicate the score using my trusted guitar. In this case, I decided on Schindler's List as, when watching the film, it became the one element that stuck with me and enhanced my emotional response. It's known for being one of the most emotional entrancing melodies in film history.

I love how the themes aren't apparently following the action occurring on screen but instead a person or idea. I haven't included this in my piece, but the score proceeds to incorporate rhythmic and harmonic idioms of Eastern European Jewish music, showing an application of wider context not only in the visuals but also the score.

I can really appreciate effective film scores and, by studying and replicating them, I hope to be able to gain a better understanding of the way that they are composed or the way they create/ enhance the emotional impact. I feel like I have began to gain this and eventually more by doing the same with others.

Due to the complexity and challenge of some film scores, by doing this it will help me develop my "guitar-playing abilities" so I can compose some of my own music one day!
