Effective Language Teaching Techniques
During the mobility activity, I gained a great deal of professional and personal experience. The training provided me with an opportunity to explore modern language teaching methods, digital tools and innovative pedagogical approaches in an international environment, working together with educators from other European countries.
The course was conducted entirely in English, which significantly improved my professional English language skills, particularly my communication and collaboration skills. On the first day of the training, we explored ways of developing the four basic language skills – reading, writing, speaking and listening – as well as the application of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). I learned how to turn passive language skills into active ones through creative and motivating activities. I found the communicative approach particularly useful, as it focuses on students’ active participation and real-life situations.
On the second day, I was introduced to a variety of digital tools and online applications that can help modernise language teaching. We tried out platforms that develop vocabulary and grammar skills in a playful way and also support reading and writing skills. I learned how to create videos and use them for educational purposes in the classroom. I found it particularly inspiring to realise how effectively digital technology can increase students’ motivation and active participation.
The topic of the third day was the use of everyday objects and authentic materials in education. We designed creative activities using simple objects, and I experienced how much more engaging the learning process can become when materials taken from real life are used. This encouraged me to design even more practical and creative activities for my students in the future.
On the fourth day, we focused on the CLIL method and the theory of TPR (Total Physical Response). I gained a better understanding of how subject content can be taught through a foreign language and how movement and learning can be combined to develop language skills. During the practical activities, I experienced that incorporating movement into the learning process is not only motivating but can also make learning more effective.
On the final professional day, we prepared lesson plans, analysed assessment methods and rubrics, and shared our ideas and experiences with one another. My collaboration skills, self-reflection and creative problem-solving skills all improved as a result. The international exchange of experiences was particularly valuable to me, as I gained a great deal of inspiration from the educational practices of other countries.
The mobility was also highly enriching from a cultural perspective. Through the joint activities and conversations, I gained a deeper understanding of the education systems, cultures and pedagogical approaches of other countries. This contributed to the development of my openness, tolerance and intercultural competence.
The mobility experience reinforced my belief that continuous professional development, openness to innovation and international cooperation are of outstanding importance in modern education. I would like to integrate the knowledge and methods I acquired into my everyday teaching practice and share them with my colleagues and students as well.
The activities were based on the communicative approach. We looked at the CFR framework first. We used simple and free tools to gamify vocabulary and grammar teaching. Photos, cards, movemnent activities. We explored how to tailor a task to students needs. From a speaking task , we ttansferred to a listening and the a writng task.We made teaching materials based on real life objects, like after going to the Epis museum, we created our own teaching content based on their exhibits. It was fun! We ecplored interdisciplinary teaching methods and also the importance of movement in the classroom. We also did cultural activities: going to Glendalough was a spectacular trip. First of all, I really enjoyed learning about the school system of other countries from the presentations of other participants.I think my ability to plan effectively improved greately. To be able to make tasks that are not based on the coursebook is really a great benefit for me. Also, I learnt techniques to motivate students better. My organising skills also improved: I learnt how to form groups, how to teach mixed abiluty students. My evaluation skills were also improved dring the course. Overall, it was a great experience for me as a teacher.
