Maths students are good at thinking logically and analytically, whilst solving problems develops resilience and helps with thinking creatively and strategically. Maths supports the study of other subjects such as the sciences, geography, psychology and economics. However, studying Maths alongside essaybased subjects such as English and History can help to keep your options open. Finally, Maths A Level has been repeatedly shown to lead to higher salaries in later life.
In both Year 12 and Year 13 you will study a combination of Pure Maths, Mechanics and Statistics. Some topics will build on those familiar to you from GCSE, such as surds, algebra and vectors in Pure, averages, correlation and histograms in Statistics and kinematics (speed, distance and time) in Mechanics. However, new topics are also introduced such as differentiation and integration, forces and moments, and statistical distributions and hypothesis testing
